A Wamx switcher is crossing over Routes 1&9 in a rare move pulling hoppers out of storage on the former Staten Island Rapid Transit Line (SIRT). Now known as the Staten Island Branch, this line was once served by the B&O Railroad and connected customers in Staten Island to Cranford Junction where they would interchange with CNJ. This line stayed in service until 1991 when Procter & Gamble, the largest and most profitable customer on the island, ceased operations and closed down. Since then the New Jersey portion of the line has become a storage track for the nearby Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery and is operated by the Bayway Terminal Switching Company, a Watco railroad. Wamx 1594 is a former Milwaukee Road MP15 and is still in the colors of its previous Watco assignment with the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad.
