Squeezing Through On the Light Rail: To access Hartz Mountain from the Orange Industrial Track, the now-abolished Dover, NJ based NS H02 needed to cross over the Newark City Light Rail, as seen here. This move required the train to wait for the dispatcher to hold all light rail vehicles before allowing the freight to proceed. This portion of the Newark City Subway was extended in 2002 over the former New York & Greenwood Lake Orange Branch. With Hartz Mountain being closed in 2010 and the land cleared for condominiums, such moves will not happen again. The engine in the photo had been recently rebuilt in May of 2006 from NS GP38 2950 (formerly CR 7911/PC 7911).
