"Emergency Turn on the GMS"
Long Island Rail Road Hempstead Branch train 756X clears Garden Interlocking's easterly limits and treks onto the Garden Mitchell Secondary (GMS) in Garden City, NY.
Hempstead Branch trains turned on the small electrified portion of the Garden Mitchell Secondary during the evening peak hour of April 21st, 2021, as a result of emergency track work at the Franklin Avenue grade crossing just east of Garden City station. It is unusual to see electric trains on the GMS, as the 2 mile long secondary track is mainly used by diesel work trains heading to and from Garden City Yard.
