South Shore Style. In 1927, the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend Railroad opened its 11th Street Station in Michigan City, Indiana. The station featured a retail outlets including a lunch counter and was served by several bus routes. In 1987, the building was closed and replaced by a bus shelter street side for the passengers. This station too closed on April 30, 2021 as the Northern Indiana Commuter District's temporary stop was opened at 11th Street/Pine Street to facilitate construction of track realignment. On January 28, 2021, a few commuters are waiting as a Chicago bound train (NICD 102, Nippon Sharyo, 2001) casts its shadow on the former station building, displaying the Insull Era "South Shore Line" logo that is still the symbol of the railroad today.
