A General Electric 16-cylinder 7FDL16 from Union Pacific AC4400CW 6704 sits on the shop floor after removal from the locomotive. It pretty obvious which cylinder or two had a defect or problem as much of it is still removed. A new prime mover is being installed in the 6704, and in this view, the old generator is in the process of being removed from engine, and since it is still “good order,” will be mated with the new prime mover next to it before installing it back into the locomotive. All of this is done by the capable crew at the Union Pacific’s South Morrill Locomotive Facility in Nebraska on September 14, 2017. Unfortunately, this shop closed in January 2019, its closure most likely due to the decline in coal traffic in the Powder River Basin region.
