When the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern was taken over by the Canadian National, the EJ&E SW1200's didn't last long on the CN roster. When CN perged them from the roster, the majority of them found homes on the Gary Railway. The Gary Railway is owned and operated by Transtar, Inc., a subsidiary of the United States Steel Corporation. It's a hazy evening just off of Lake Michigan at Gary Harbor as a pair of former EJ&E SW1200's bring an empty cut of CSX coke cars out of the plant. These units managed to stay on/near home rails, as the former EJ&E Kirk Yard is practically next door to this massive steel mill. The Gary Railway interchanges at Kirk on a daily basis. A keen eye will notice the Walter J. McCarthy Jr., a bulk carrier ship, going about its business at the middle point of this photograph.
