Southern had a big fleet of GP35s, mostly numbered in the 2600s and 2700s, with all but two in that series riding on AAR Type B trucks. There were also 5 or 6 GP35s that were bought and sublettered for Central of Georgia, and numbered in the 200s. All the GP35s in this group had Blombergs, like 211, shown here with the westbound long-range local.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
