Anniversary Engines. Amtrak 145 (Phase 3 - 40th Anniversary, P42DC) and 100 (Midnight Blue - 50th Anniversary, P42DC) were the power for train 870 on Sunday, September 26, 2021. This train was a 4 car private varnish special that had traveled around the US on regular Amtrak trains before operating on Vermont Rail System. That day, after the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners, Inc. special was brought to Rutland, Vermont, these cars were picked and brought to the Albany-Rensselaer, New York Station, where the train is being serviced before parking for the night.
