Long shadows and lovely light. The location adjacent to the Cargill Agricultural Products facility in Martinsburg, PA, proved to be an ideal place to finish our 2021 Historic Transport Preservation (HTP) charter on the Everett Road. A crystal clear sky and a nearly clean horizon to the west provided some incredible, low-angle sunlight, just prior to sunset. In this scene, Everett Railroad Mogul #11 takes here little mixed train south from the Cargill Facility (MP 21) toward nearby Martinsburg Junction. This image, depicting #11 with the cylinder cocks open, was taken from private farm property, with the kind permission of the landowner. The man on the throttle of #11 is Everett Railroad Engineer Stephen Lane.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
Steam scenes from Pennsylvania's Everett Railroad, featuring the former Bath & Hammondsport 2-6-0 #11, operating on photo charters and local Christmas Trains.
