Backing into Los Angeles Union Station is Amtrak train 14, the northbound Coast Starlight. This train will depart Los Angeles for Seattle within the hour, with AMTK P42DCs 174 and 157 pulling 8 cars (baggage 61031, sleepers 32065 and 32059, diner 38064, coach 34508, lounge 33000 and coaches 34085 and 34028), with an arrival in Portland the next day where, because of rock slides north of there, passengers will be bussed to Seattle. (Los Angeles, California – January 5, 2002)
Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
