It’s the end of the line for the majority of street running for South Shore Line commuter trains in Michigan City. Beginning February 28, 2022, construction will begin. Eventually, the road will be converted to one way, and the tracks off to the side. Buses will replace commuter trains between the Carroll Avenue (Michigan City) and Porter as part of the project to double-track the CSS mainline between Gary and Michigan City. Railfan’s line 10th and 11th Street’s in Downtown Michigan City as NICD 37 leads South Shore #503 down 11th St. Sunday February 27th, 2022 will be the last day of street running in Michigan City for all passenger trains forever. There were rumored to be over 100 railfans on this sunny winter morning lined along 10th and 11th St.
