Frosty cold East Ely. Spouting majestic clouds of snow white steam, the Nevada Northern Railway Museum's two coal-burning Consolidations emerge from the East Ely engine house to a sparking clear sky and finger-numbing, near zero degree cold. Although historically, it might have been a little rare for two steam engines to depart from their quarters simultaneously, the combination of these two big freight hogs, #s 81 and 93, and the extremely cold air produced one of the most spectacular steam scenes that I've seen here in Ely, and this was my 8th time attending the Winter Photo Shoots. Over the years, I've noticed that when we take this shot, most photographers have tended to shoot either from the sunny side, or head-on, yet I'm fast becoming a fan of this angle, which just gets better as the engines come further forward.
