Montana Rail Link’s LM reaches the summit of Bozeman Pass, with the eight SD45/SD45-2 cradling the actual top of the grade at West End, Montana, on September 23, 2002. The point helper will stay on until Bozeman, where the three road engines will continue the trip west to Missoula. The longer and more-restrictive original bore is on the right, and was bypassed when the new Bozeman Pass Tunnel opened for traffic on July 28, 1945.
