Soo Line train 214, powered by lone EMD SD60M No. 6061, waits for a signal at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 27, 1992. Passing by on the main line is Amtrak train 338 to Chicago, substituted with Chicago Metra commuter equipment. For several years in the early 1990’s, Amtrak would borrow some equipment from Metra to sub for Amtrak trains on the Chicago to Milwaukee “Hiawatha” corridor on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This would allow Amtrak to move the passenger cars and locomotives normally used on the run and expand capacity on other trains to handle increased holiday ridership.
