Busiest Railroad Junction In The World? The interlocking at Tower 18 on the Chicago Transit Authority "L” at West Lake And North Wells Streets oversees the movement of Purple, Brown, Pink, Green, and Orange Line trains on a daily basis. This amounts to thousands of trains a day routed around the “loop”. The present building at this location was opened in 2010 as part of upgrades to track and signals. On the evening of Wednesday, May 4, 2022, CTA 5008 leads a Pink Line train across Lake Street towards the Clark/Lake Station, showing Tower 18 on the northwest corner of the interlocking This car is one of the original 12 cars delivered by Bombardier in 2009 (5001-5012) as part of the 5000 series order, that would ultimately total 714 cars (last delivered in 2015).
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
