The Link In Plain Sight. On July 19, 2017, an unusual CSX daylight running of train Q701 was on its final miles as it rolled down the Oak Point Link in the Bronx, New York with CSXT 8759 (SD60M) leading. Opened in 1998, this track was built by the State Of New York in order to eliminate the use of the Port Morris Branch and the need to cross Mott Haven Junction. Initially intended to significantly increase the variety of freight and freight providers into New York City, today it is used only by CSX for a single road train in each direction each day (usually in darkness), with occasional appearances from a local train as necessary.
