A pair of Conrail SD50s, Nos. 6729 and 6764, have run through to Burlington Northern’s Clyde Yard at Cicero, Illinois, operating on the ELBN freight from CR’s Elkhart Yard in Indiana on February 22, 1992. The SD50 model is powered with a 16-cylinder 645F3B engine and sits on a 71 foot, 2 inch frame to house all the new 50 Series machinery, which includes a relocation of the dynamic brake grid forward toward the cab. This moved it to a cleaner and cooler location away from the prime mover, and did away with the familiar dynamic brake blister.
