The Grand Return. Five years after it last ran on the mainline, Santa Fe 3751 returned to the rails to great fanfare for an Amtrak safety event in Fullerton, CA following its 15 year rebuild. After being on display for several days, the historic locomotive is seen here backing its train out of the siding, where Amtrak P42 #203 will be placed in the lead for the trip back to Los Angeles. Due to 3751 still awaiting software for its "LeapTC" system, which will allow 3751 to use the diesel's PTC system in order to be in the lead, it must trail for this run. The future looks bright, however, for 3751 to lead trains once again after its long hiatus.
