2022 MTA NYCT Subway/NY Transit Museum Holiday Train. A new experience was created for the 2022 Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway/New York Transit Museum Holiday Train, as for the first time a repainted 10-car train of IRT (Interboro Rapid Transit/A Division/Numbered Line) was operated for this event. The train made 4 round trips between Chambers Street and 137 Street-City College, and there was no extra charge for taking a ride. The cars represent a few contacts of similar cars built by St. Louis Car Company-GSI between 1962-1964, and were all retired from active service by the end of 2003. Enchanting the variety of the experience, the 5 “sets” of cars (4 married pairs and 1 set of 2 single cars) were repainted into 5 different paint schemes that the cars wore over their 40 year careers. From the very bright and long gone 1964-54 World’s Fair Robin’s Egg blue and white to the more recent “Gunn Red” Redbirds, this train was indeed of many colors. On Sunday, December 11, 2022, the third of four weeks of this special operating, the weather was a bit cold and rainy, and it was a good day to spend underground. Not long after leaving the yard, the train is about to enter the tunnel at East 149 Street in the Bronx, New York and spend the day on the Nostalgia Specials.
