First GE P32 On The First Lake Shore Limited Of The Year. On an unseasonably warm January 1, 2023, Amtrak Train 49 (lake Shore Limited) was a bit tardy departing New York Penn Station, but this allowed for a meeting the sunset by the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York, New York. The lead unit, AMTK 700 (P32AC-DM, Phase III, GE, 6/1995), was the first of 18 dual mode engines delivered to Amtrak and 31 subsequently delivered to Metro-North Railroad and Connecticut DOT to replace an assortment of dual mode FL9s and straight diesels, and are now themselves coming up for replacement. Grant's Tomb rises above the first coach in the consist next to the billboard in the background, the final resting place of the 18th President of The United States and Commanding General Of The Armies (Hiram) Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julie Dent Grant.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
