Barreling through Ohio farmland. Norfolk & Western J-Class Northern #611 looks right at home barreling across open farmland, hauling a 5-car express passenger train on a sunny November afternoon. But unfortunately, this isn't Norfolk & Western territory and sadly, she's not doing 60 mph. This is Pennsylvania's Strasburg Rail Road and the location is just east of the Black Horse Road crossing, which the railroad refers to as "Carpenters." In 2022 at least, this is about the only place where you can still see this locomotive stretch her legs just a little. Although it's not quite the same as seeing her charging down the NS main line like we could a few years ago, it sure beats a yard shoot in a museum at 10 mph. This image was captured during a November, 2022 photo shoot, organized by the Strasburg Rail Road and 611's owner, the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
