Cloudy In Chatham. On Saturday, April 29, 2023, there was a break in the rainy weather as Amtrak Train 449 (Lake Shore Limited) led by AMTK 100 (50th Anniversary, Midnight Blue, P42DC) passed through Chatham, New York. The consist was somewhat longer than usual, with trailing unit AMTK 117, a Viewliner II baggage car, Viewliner II slee, an AmFleet II cafe and 2 AmFleet II coaches. To the left is Chatham’s landmark pendulum clock, which dates to 1872 and is the only one of its kind still in the original condition. Although settled in the late 18th century, the area came to prominence in the late 19th/early 20th century as the place where the Boston and Albany Railroad connected with the Rutland Railroad and the New York Central's Harlem Line. Today these tracks are owned by CSX and chiefly see freight trains, but are served by the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited on a daily basis and the Berkshire Flyer during the summer months.
