It’s a busy and hot Friday summer afternoon out on Fox Lake, people out boating, and fishing as WAMX 3894 and Metra 405 lead the Richard Oppenheim Retirement Special at a snails pace over Fox Lake while heading back towards Chicago Union Station after making a round trip to Janesville. I had taken this photo fresh off a plane after returning back to Illinois from a vacation to Australia, with 2 days of traveling home just prior to this. Being awake for more than 40+ hours straight, and running on energy drinks, I couldn’t miss the opportunity for this rare mileage special, and managed to still have a fun day of chasing the Richard Oppenheim Retirement Special.
Although most only provide freight service, regional railroads have passenger operations; not only executive trains but also charity events and excursions.
