The Oldest Red Car In Existence. Former Pacific Electric car 913 holds a special place in the history of the Los Angeles, California area as the oldest surviving 'Red Car' in existence. When the Formosa Cafe opened in 1939 inside of this 1904 car across the street from the Samuel Goldwyn studio in West Hollywood, there was likely no way of knowing that it would still be in business over 80 years later. The food is Chinese-American themed as is the decor, what today's owners call "glory days of Hollywood" food. After serving such stars as John Wayne and Frank Sinatra out of this car by itself, it was eventually built into the building that is the main restaurant today. As seen on the night of July 24, 2020 after a recent renovation, the legendary PE name has been restored and the future of the restaurant appears bright to continue serving customers.
