End of the Line.
Line 3 of the Toronto Subway, also known as the Scarborough RT, was a light rapid transit line that operated to six stations on a 4-mile route. The line was distinctly different from the other Toronto Subway lines - and other rail transit lines in the Americas - which was a factor in the decision not to revitalize and expand the line but rather to close Line 3 and replace it with an extension of Line 2. Closure was scheduled for November 2023, but a derailment in July 2023 prompted an early permanent closure. In this aerial photo of McCowan Yard, the line's only maintenance facility, nearly the entire Scarborough RT fleet can be seen, including Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) locomotive ST-1 (Arva, 1984), flatcar ST-2 (Arva, 1984), and nineteen S-series cars (UTDC, 1983-1986).
