Midnight Diesel After Midnight. On the night of Saturday October 21, 2023 to Sunday October 22, 2023, Amtrak operated a non-revenue move of the New York section of Train 48 (Lake Shore Limited) from Boston, Massachusetts South Station to New York Penn Station and ultimately Sunnyside Yard on the Northeast Corridor Line. Due to a mudslide on the Hudson Line in Scarborough, New York, service was suspended. This resulted in the whole consist being sent to Boston, and the passengers were transferred to Train 65. Later, the NY section had AMTK 100 (50th Anniversary, Midnight Blue, P42DC) added for power and shortly before midnight departed for New York without passengers in order to transfer the equipment. The train is seen under wire on the platform at New Haven Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
