Rising Redbirds.
Emerging from the White Plains Road Line portal is New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R36WF no. 9586 (St. Louis Car Co., 1963-1964), which was the lead motor on a NY Transit Museum excursion for the anniversary of the last revenue service run of the "Redbird" cars. The Redbirds were a group of 8 models of subway cars that operated on the A Division from 1959-2003, whose nickname comes from the deep red paint they wore starting in the 1980s. The train bears the diamond 5 bullet, which was used to designate express service on the White Plains Road Line until 2005.
