New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R3 pump car no. 20128 is seen laid up at Concourse Yard in the Bronx. The car was built by Magor in 1932 as no. 56.
Also visible in the background are R28 no. 7894 (ACF, 1960-1961) and R14 no. 5815 (ACF, 1949), coupled together as part of a mixed consist of compatible "SMEE" cars. The acronym refers to the novel braking system used on the cars, and stands for Straight Air Motor Car Electric-Pneumatic Emergency, and encompasses 12 models of car built for the A Division between 1948 and 1964.
