Past, Present, and Future.
An interesting overlap of eras can be seen at NJ Transit's Dover Yard, with EMD GP40PH-2 no. 4105 and ALP-45A no. 4552 are seen laid up side by side. 4105 is one of the oldest locomotives on NJ Transit's roster; the thirteen GP40P locomotives were built in 1968 for commuter service on the Raritan Valley and North Jersey Coast Lines, operated by the Central Railroad of New Jersey. In contrast, 4552 is one of the newest locomotives on the roster; the dual-mode model having entered production in 2021. Sharp eyes will notice that 4105 now sports a CNJ sticker behind the cab window, a reminder of its provenance before the inception of NJ Transit!
