Remarks & Notes
Foggy Meet: The now-abolished Dover, NJ based NS H02 has just arrived westbound at the Stirling Passing Siding to get out of the way of eastbound passenger train NJT 420 with NJT 1321 leading. The freight train has just finished serving Reheis in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Freight service on the Gladstone Branch ended by the end of 2009 and this local job was abolished by Norfolk Southern in March of 2019. NS 3056 was originally built for Conrail as CR 3381. In the photo, you can see that the engine’s horn has been modified with some of the horn’s “bells” removed. This temporary modification was done to ensure that the engine had enough height clearance coming through the low catenary in Summit, NJ.
