World's Fair Special. To celebrate 50th anniversary of the 1964 World’s Fair and the 75th anniversary of the 1939 World’s Fair, on June 8, 2014, the New York Transit Museum operated a Nostalgia Special on the 7/Flushing Line. The trip used St. Louis Car Company built R-33 and R-36 cars that were delivered in the early 1960s. Leading the consist railroad north was the first R-33S (single), car NYCT 9306, in its distinctive Robin's Egg Blue. The train is seen approaching the Queensboro Plaza station in Long Island City, New York with the Queensboro Bridge in the background. This paint scheme was applied only to the 440 R-33S and R-36WF cars delivered for the '64 Fair, and they spent the vast majority of their career on that line. NYCT 9306 was retired after fewer than a dozen years in service and was the newer car on display at the New York City Transit Exhibit that later became the Transit Museum. Since it did not go through the 1980s GOH program, it is likely the least modified operable car on the museum roster.
