A pair of Z-trains head east at Park Moabi towards the Arizona/California state line as they begin their nearly 300 mile journey from Needles, CA to Winslow, AZ. On main 1, the tail end of the Z-SBDWSP8 is seen as the Z-LACALT5 begins to reel in the other Z-train. What caused this train race was that the Z-LACALT5 had to stop at East Needles, after the crew change, due to the train having multiple open containers. Railroad security had to board the train and close the open containers. During the delay, the Z-SBDWSP8 rolled into Needles, performed a crew change, and was ready to depart east. With the lack of westbound traffic that morning, the dispatcher took advantage of the double mainline and raced both eastbound towards Topock.
