While Tokaido Shinkansen completed the fleet renewal, the development of a new generation train N700S Series was already in progress. Modified from the N700 Series, the new nose profile is named Dual Supreme Wing. The train also has reduced weight which allows the installation of lithium batteries for emergency use. After two years of trial operation, the first unit entered service in 2020.
