South African Railways Class 16DA No. 879 stands over an inspection pit in Culemborg Yard, Cape Town on 19 October 2013. Flanked by PRASA 'Shosholoza Meyl' long distance passenger coaches, and overlooked by Table Mountain with its famous cable car station, No. 879 was undergoing a steam test near the end of its restoration to steam with Atlantic Rail. Six months later 879 ran its first post-restoration steam excursion to Simon's Town, becoming the only 4-6-2 'Pacific' steam locomotive in working condition in South Africa, and continued in service with Atlantic Rail for several years after that.
