Remarks & Notes
Classic New Jersey passenger equipment can be seen laying over in Hoboken Terminal. These cars were retired from passenger service on NJ Transit by late 2009. This cab car, built in 1973 originally as EL 1534, was the last of its type manufactured by Pullman Standard for the Erie Lackawanna and New Jersey Department of Transportation. It later went to the passenger division of Conrail in 1976 which became NJ Transit in 1983. Originally equipped with low doors only, it was rebuilt by Bombardier in Barre, Vermont in 1987 to feature high doors with traps to access stairs for low egress. All Comet I Cab Cars and many Comet I Trailers, such as the ones seen here behind the cab, received this type of door modification to allow trains to work with both low and high platforms on NJ Transit’s rail network.
