Remarks & Notes
A Conrail SD50 works the former Southern Pacific yard in Victoria, TX. The SD50 and an SP Dash 8 have just uncoupled from a classic SP bay window caboose, while an SP EMD waits in the distance. Even though this photo was taken a year and a half after the UP-SP merger, there was no sign of UP in sight. Nearly everything seen here is gone today. A single main track and the distant communication tower are all the remain to help identify the location. At the time, the former SP Victoria Line to the east was abandoned from Rosenberg, TX to a point just east of Victoria. The yard was essentially stub-ended and was served via the adjoining former SP Port Lavaca Branch between Flatonia and Port Lavaca. Today this view looks east from the point where CPKC's Rosenberg Sub joins UP's Cuero Sub. KCS rehabilitated the former SP east of here in the mid-2000s, with operations starting in 2009.
