"Side View of the Battery Loco"

On the afternoon of July 3, 2024, brand new New York City Transit (NYCT) Wabtec WAB6HYB (R255) #HL001 sits in Linden Yard in Brooklyn, New York on a flatcar waiting to be unloaded.

The WAB6HYB (R255), is a 675hp hybrid battery locomotive built by Wabtec Corporation (formerly GE Transportation) in Erie, Pennsylvania. These locomotives are specially designed to meet all of New York City Transit's subway standards and can operate on battery power for up to 8 hours. They will be used to power work trains throughout the system. HL001 is the second out of 25 units scheduled for delivery.
