Remarks & Notes |
By the dawn's early light... The first golden rays of a late October sunrise greet N&W Locomotive 382 as she rides the high iron across rolling farmland. Through the efforts of the crews at Lerro Productions and the Strasburg Railroad..and with just a little help from a higher power, 40+ rail photographers were able to relive the last days of branch-line steam in America in very spectacular conditions on this chilly morning. If he were still among us, I believe that O. Winston Link would have been proud that his photos of the N&W's Abingdon Branch would inspire rail enthusiasts more than half a century later to go to such lengths to recreate a train that was hardly well-known in it's day. Equally proud would be the folks from the Baldwin Locomotive Works to see #475 still soldiering on in such beautiful condition, more than 100 years after she was built. |
