Remarks & Notes |
Kind of like now days for awhile in the late 70's it seemed everyone was getting into the locomotive leasing business. An outfit named Chrome Crankshaft bought a number of Ex SP RS32's and repainted a few of them and then leased them to CNW. They were first used on the Alco lines based out of Huron SD then they migrated east to be used around the Escanaba-Green Bay area. This late evening photo has the 4003 resting on the radial tracks near the roundhouse at Escanaba. These units gave the CNW fits with some kind of wiring issue, but it apparently didn't scare them off RS-32's in general as they bought 10 ex CR units a month or so after this date. A Baldwin DRS6-6-15/EMD and a few C628's rest along side the bright red CC unit. These units were returned to CC not long after this photo was taken. |
