Illinois Central 2039 was one of a group of 70 4-6-2s rebuilt for branch line service in the early 1940s. They retained their original 25x26 cylinders and were fitted with 61 inch drivers that gave them a squat look. They performed well and some lasted until diesels finally displaced them. The cut piston rod says it all; ICRR 2039 is about to meet her fate at the scrapper.
A collection of engines, cabooses, cars, etc., great and small that are past their prime, but represent a spirit of railroading that will never pass away!!
