While looking for historic mining artifacts in Park City, we discovered the old D&RGW freight depot along Park Avenue. The Rio Grande removed trackage into Park City in 1948, but this structure sat basically untouched for nearly 30 years. Lettering along the face above the door reads 'DENVER 774.8 M' and 'ELEV 6970 FT'. A faded Royal Gorge Route logo can be discerned along the upper righthand side of the door. The structure survives today, converted into a business in what is now a highly gentrified and touristy Park City.
Oh the stories these special buildings could tell. Originally the brains of the rails they monitored, working to insure effecient rail service for our nation! A tribute!
