Charles Town, WV 2/9/2013 - On a brilliant and windy winter afternoon, CSX stone train K-975 pounds the Norfolk Southern diamond along the former B&O Shenandoah Subdivision. K-975 operates between the yard at Brunswick, MD and a stone quarry in Middletown, VA to haul crushed stone to be used in power plant scrubbers in southern Maryland. This bi-monthly train is usually the only daylight move across the diamond on CSX trackage, while the daily Winchester to Brunswick local crosses the diamond at night. The Norfolk Southern "H-Line", however, sees up to two dozen trains per day passing this point 28 miles south of Hagerstown. Image taken from a private road crossing with permission.
