Monticello Railway Museum's first steam engine, an 0-4-0T saddle tank engine, greets guests at the end of an off ramp off Hwy 72. The engine was built by the American Locomotive Works in 1925 for Western Indiana Aggregate & Stone in Montezuma, Indiana. The Museum acquired the engine in 1966 and was restored to operation in a parking lot! The saddle tank was removed and the engine was mated to a tender (#4342) donated by the Illinois Central. It first ran on October 12th, 1970. The locomotive was last used at the museum in 1988 at which point it was cosmetically restored and placed on display as seen here.
