Remarks & Notes

The classiest profile in railroading in late 1965 was still Santa Fe’s four Warbonnet-wearing E6As. Built by EMC in the early years of World War II, by the mid-1960s they were assigned to service between Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Dallas, mostly on the Chicagoan, where their 2,000 hp was considered more than adequate to keep the seven-car consists on schedule. All will be gone by summer, 1968, but in the meantime what could look speedier than the 15, at rest on the ready track at Kansas City’s Argentine engine terminal?
