Following the passage of the second of three large storms to pound the southern half of California this past week, massive amounts of water remain scattered across the central coast in areas unable to drain. The San Luis Obispo train station and its tracks are no exception as seen this cloudy afternoon as a lengthy puddle captures the reflection of the lead helper unit here, the UP 4213, waiting for its next call to head north to Santa Margarita to assist the southbound "oil cans" down Cuesta Pass. Further showing just how large the amount of water is at this location is the siding track here at San Luis Obispo, flooded up to the rails with both ballast and ties submerged under water to the right of the reflection.
Meanwhile, staying dry on the closest track to the depot, the private cars Pacific Trail and Overland Trail or LARail.com fame cool their heels as they prepare to return south for Los Angeles on the point of Amtrak 1790.
