Remarks & Notes |
I am really glad I was turned onto this era that the UP went thru in early 2000's. Helper Utah seemed to be the holding ground for the last life of the Rio Grande tunnel motors. The main attraction was this dirty dirt train that ran from Helper to Sunnyside. East in the morning, west in the afternoons, it was the prefect chase and the train usually featured 3-4 DRGW units. Here the westbound heads back to Helper with empty containers bound back to Salt Lake City area for trash loading. There was a mine opened by East Carbon Development Corporation that would take non hazardous solid waste, the UP provide service for these trash trains. |
