The "Sonoma," an 1876-built 4-4-0 that was owned and operated by the North Pacific Coast narrow guage railroad, gleams under the lights of the California State Railroad Museum with an interesting assortment of company gathered over the past 150 years. Offering a stark contrast from the past to the future, while viewing it here in the present, the "Sonoma" now shares the floor with a mock, high-speed rail locomotive that is projected to be what California's high-speed trains look in the years to come.
High above hanging from the ceiling, 2-6-0 Nevada Short Line No. 1, built in 1879, leads a small train of a boxcar and caboose.
