Amtrak's westbound Southwest Chief makes a daylight run through northern Arizona as it is running nearly 8 hours behind schedule due to mechanical and track work issues in Colorado and New Mexico. The chief limps its way through the small rural community of Valentine, Ariz., as it passes by the old Red Schoolhouse for the town. Built in 1924, the Red Schoolhouse was constructed a mile north of the Valentine Schoolhouse, where much of the children of the Hualapai, Havasupai, and Hopi tribes attended. The Red Schoolhouse was constructed for the White students as the Natives students had hair lice and was a way to prevent the other students from getting it.
