A two-truck Shay steam locomotive sits in Columbia Falls not far away from BNSF's Hi-Line Sub. It's true history is uncertain, some sources identify it as GN 1 or GN 2769, but it's generally agreed upon that the wood-burner was formerly owned and operated by several lumber companies, including Somers Lumber Co., Somers, MT, Howe Lumber Mills and Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Co., both in Eureka, MT, and State Lumber Co. and F. H. Stoltz Land & Lumber, both in Columbia Falls. It was built around 1914.
