The companion photo to this photo and my 100th contribution to this database provides an overview of the entire Juniata Shops complex and the City of Altoona beyond. The shops were built by the Pennsylvania Railroad as part of the Altoona Works, which at its peak covered over 300 acres and stretched some three miles bisecting the city. Today, the facility is on its fourth owner, having passed to Penn Central, then to Conrail, and finally, Norfolk Southern and remain one of the largest railroad locomotive repair and rebuild facilities in North America.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
